A short trip to Brisbane in January 2017 gave me the opportunity to take some new photographs in unfamiliar surrounds. The photographs below are primarily of Brisbane city itself. The other locations will be presented on separate pages.
Images below were taken on an Olympus OMD EM10, 12-40mm f2.8 lens and 45mm f1.8 lens.

The journey to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport in the early hours of the morning presented some great opportunities to capture some 'bokeh balls' created by the cars' lights.

The early hours of the morning gave some very interesting lighting for the clouds over the city.

Melbourne Silhouettes

It was difficult to get a clear shot of the city whilst being in a moving car with poor lighting conditions...

It was a short two hour flight to Brisbane city from Melbourne.

Brisbane Towers

The weather in Brisbane was hot and tropical in nature. The humidity and heat made it difficult to stay outside away from air conditioning for long but photographs of this beautiful city needed to be taken!

Brisbane River. It was not too many years ago that this exact river over flooded the banks and spilled river water into the city.

There appeared to be a large number of apartments alongside the Brisbane River. Some of these buildings appeared relatively new and modern.

The Brisbane River plays a vital role in Brisbane, with locals taking advantage of the water taxis to reach different parts of the city.

With the sun setting, we decided to make our way to Fortitude Valley; Brisbane's version of a Chinatown that is present in both Melbourne and Sydney. However upon arriving there, it was discovered that the shops were mostly closed and hence food options were extremely limited. The area was also mostly devoid of people and lacked the hustle and bustle that is prevalent in Chinatowns in the other capital cities. It was unexpected that this would have been the case in Australia's third largest city.
Nonetheless, the setting sun presented some opportunities to try out some slow shutter experiments with the cars...

Due to budget airline carry on luggage restrictions, I was unable to bring along a tripod on this trip. This meant that it was difficult hand holding the camera to get stable and clear shots when I was using a shutter speed between 1/5 and 1/10 of a second. However, the stabilization system present in my camera, even though it is only 3-axis in nature, helped tremendously. Maybe a beta-blocker might help in the future!

The Meriton apartment skyscraper forms a very distinctive shape on the Brisbane skyline.

Mandatory long exposure cityscape shot. As I was unable to bring along a tripod on this trip, this shot was achieved by laying the camera on the ground underneath the guardrail in front of the river. I personally think that it turned out quite well....

That concludes the first day of the Queensland trip. More photos from the trip will be posted on separate pages.
