Taking the Ginza line to Asakusa. The Ginza line is the oldest subway line in Tokyo, running very close to the surface. It is mostly underground and runs from Shibuya to Asakusa. Shibuya is the only part of the line where the train comes above ground.

Getting closer to the Tokyo Skytree..... but it won't be for a few days until we are right underneath it. (Lens: Panasonic Lumix 25mm F1.7)

An island of tradition in the middle of a modern city

A less crowded shopping mall right next to the Senso-Ji temple. Not many tourists come to this part making it a good place to catch a breather from the insane crowds.

The amount of power lines strung across roads to buildings is a common sight in Tokyo. In a city where earthquakes are common, having power lines above ground makes them easier to maintain and repair.

Rickshaw rides are quite popular in Asakusa

Summer heat

The first train I saw that employed transverse style seating (similar to the seats in Melbourne's trains). The seats were quite comfortable with the cushion appearing (and feeling) in very good condition.

The sun was starting to set, casting long shadows across the ground

Intense browsing

White-gloved train conductor checking that the train doors are closed and that the platform is clear before giving the all clear for the train to depart. Having a second person to fulfill this task is not something you see in Melbourne.

Using my phone to take a timelapse of the sunset over the city

Looking down towards central Tokyo and the sea of skyscrapers. The Tokyo Skytree can once again be seen in the distance.

The city becomes alive at night and is truly a sight to behold
